ROAD BOARDS.
OXFORD. The adjourned maeting of this Board was held on Friday, 17th inst. Present—Messrs Ingram (chairman), Ffitcb, and Pearson. The chairman apologised for the absence of Mr Bonnett on account of business. The clerk's renort was read re water at the junotion of Woodstock, Bainey's, and Ashworth s roads. The report stated that the level had been taken, and in several places the fall was a little over six inches in the chain, but if banks were put in two places against the fence to prevent the water from overflowing the land, the fall from one end to the other would be four inches to the chain. Of course a shoot would have to be put in at the river, and the road filled to the full width, and the hole] in the road, where the terrace makes a (urn into it, partly filled up. The matter was allowed to stand over for a full meeting. It was resolved—"To shingle about 15 chains of Haider's road, and take about 12 ft off the point on the spur, and shinglo the embankment at the bridge with the best of the stuff." It was decided to relet the protective works at Lee's and Stiffen's, as Summerfield had not commenced the work, and the contract time had expired. It was resolved—" That against the owners of all dogs not registered before March Ist, proceedings Bhould be instituted to enforoe the Act." To write to the Minister of Public Works about the handrail of the Waimakariri Gorge Bridge, and point out that several carters have had r.arrow escapes of being blown over the bridge. To sue those persons who had not paid their rates. It was resolved that Messrs Ingram and W. F. Pearson be appointed valuers under the Publio Works Act, 1876, to value roads at Carleton. The olerk was instructed to write to Mr Thomson, Oarleton, and say the value of the land on both roads bad been fixed at £3 10s per acre, and offer the difference of acreage in the two roads at that price. Mr Sladden waited upon the Board and asked to have some ruts on Grimwood's road filled, and informing the Board that he was building a bridge over Cooper's Greek on this road, and asking if the Board would make the approach and fill in the crates at the bridge. The request was granted. Also, asking the permission of the Board to put a tramway on the road. He said the Board, he knew, oould give him no protection against damage.
