i SOUTH CHRISTCHURCH, i The polling for the election of the South i Christchurch Licensing Commissioners took , place yesterday at St. John’s schoolroom, Latimer square, and resulted in Messrs Cunningham, Westenra, Pritchard, Harman, and Parker being elected. As compared with the previous elections for the other Christchurch districts, a slightly increased interest was evinced, as will be seen on reference to the number of votes polled, which was as under— Cunningham, P 73 Westenra, R, 74 Pritchard, O. A 69 Harman, B. J. S 65 Parker, J. B. 51 Harris, W. 0. 19 The Sydenham Bench will be elected tomorrow (Friday), and the following persons have been duly nominated :—Messrs Thomas Henry Bone, George Booth, John Thompson Brown, the Rev. Henry Bromley Cocks, Messrs Frederick Charles Hall, William Langdon, Frederick Mason, Henry William Packer, Charles Alexander Pritchard, and James Strutters Williams. LYTTELTON. There were two tickets circulated for the Licensing Bench elections, and a good deal of interest was shown by the supporters of the several candidates. The election went off very quietly, the publicans particularly being most apathetic. At 6.40, Mr Ollivier, the Returning Officer, announced the poll as fallows : Adam Chalmers ... ... 87 J. Wilfred Smith S 3 Robert Forbes 73 W. Reed 70 S. R, Webb... ... ... 67 These were declared duly elected. Besides them, the following candidates stood J. J, Fyfe, 66 j Geo. Ayers, 60 ; O. H. Elmes, 57 ; A. Joyce, 49; T. McDonald, 34. The whole number of votes polled was 154, eight of which were informal. KAIAPOL The polling for this committee yesterday resulted in the votes being recorded—Messrs Porter, 47 j Coup, 42; Blackwell, 37 ; Robins, 40 ; Hurse, 37; McGregor, 31; J. Lowthian Wilson, 15 ;W. Fraser, 13. Messrs Porter, Coup, Blackwell, Robins and Hurse were declared elected. The candidates briefly returned thanks, and a vote of thanks was carried to the returning officer, Mr Whitefoord. BANGIOBA. Mr A. H. Cunningham has retired from the list of candidates for this district, as he holds a Government appointment. LINCOLN. The following gentlemen being the only persons nominated, they were duly elected as members of the committee for this district;— John N. Tosswill, Henry William Peryman. John William Overton, James Gammack, Francis Henry Brittan. There was no interest whatever taken in the election, few persons in the district seeming to know anything of the matter, SOUTH RAEAIA. The following gentlemen were declared duly elected members of the Licensing Bench, there being no other nominations :—Messrs B. S. Coster, W. M, Lyttelton, O. M. Mackic, L, Mangham and Jno. Mann, MOUNT HU IT. The following gentlemen have been nominated as candidates for election : Messrs G. H. Allington, C. B. Allington, B. Chapman, Duncan Cameron (Clones), Jae. Dent, Julian Jackson, W. McMillan, and J. A. Pannett. The poll will be taken on Monday, the 6th March.
