TEAMWAY TERMINUS.
To the Editor of the Globe, Sib, —As the question of altering the present arrangements of the Tramway Company in Cathedral square is under consideration, will you permit me to offer a suggestion to the Tramway Company. Why stop in Cathedral square at all ? Yeiy few passengers by tram go to the Cathedral, and still fewer to the Godley statue, so why serve those two institutions P To make the tramway a convenience to the public is the best way of making it a profitable concern, and in order to do so I would suggest that the oars should be run on continuously through the square and along Colombo or High streets alternately. If the destination of the passengers by the down Papanui trams is noted, it will be seen that about half of them go along Colombo street and half down High street, and it would be much more convenient for them if the trams ran on as suggested. In addition to this, I believe a large number would ride, say, from Armagh street corner to Cashel, Lichfield, or Tuam streets, if the trams ran straight on. When a nor’-wester is blowing it is worth twopence or threepence to get across the square safely, without having to chase your hat, or call for tenders to remove the dust from your eyes and clothes. I believe both the public and the Tramway Company would benefit by such a change. In addition, I would ask the company to curtail their advertising space a trifle, so as to admit of the destination of the oars being made more conspicuous, as the Bailway Station, Addington, Sydenham (and shortly the Perry road) cars all run from this square in the same direction. Yours, &c., PEDESTEIAN.
