An official telegram received from Sydney states that there have been no oases of smallpox since the 22nd of January, and there are not any oases in quarantine, and that, so far as is known, New South Wales is free from the disease with the exception of the oases in quarantine and the sanitorium, which are progressing favourably. The question of revoking the proclamation declaring Sydney an infected port is under consideration by the Government. The Governor. The Governor leaves for Lyttelton in the Hinemoa at five this evening. The Eifle Meeting at Nelson. All the camp equipments for the rifle shooting at Nelson were sent away to-day. KAIAPOI, February 16. Licensing CommitteeThe candidates for the Licensing Committee nominated are G. H. Blackwell, R. Coup, W. Fraser, J. Hurse, Eov, R. McGregor, J. 0. Porter, F. Robins, and J. Lowthian Wilson. The nomination of J. W. Ellen was informal, one of the nominators not being on the burgess list.
