Consols remain at 99-J; New Zealand securities are unchanged, as follows: Five Per Cent. 10.40 Loan, 104£; Five Per Cent. 1889 Loan, 104; Four and a Half Per Cent. 1879-1904 Loan, 991, ex dividend. Adelaide wheat, ex warehouse, remains at 555; and New Zealand wheat, at 535; Adelaide flour, ex warehouse, has declined to 41s 6d. The total quantity of wheat afloat for the United Kingdom is 2,890,000 quarters. Australian tallow, best beef, 425; best mutton, 48s 6d. Best sides of Australian leather have declined to 10 |d. Political. Sir Chas. Russell has retired from the representation of Westminster in the House of Commons, and Lord Algernon Percy, second son of the Duke of Northumberland, haa been elected ia his place without opposition. The Channel TunnelIn the House of Commons to-day Mr Childers, Secretary of State for War, in reply to a question, stated that Sir Garnet Wolseley was adverse, while Sir Jehu Adye was favorable, to the projected tunnel between England and France under the Channel. The Government, he added, had had the project under consideration, but had for the present postponed its decision regarding it. Our Late Governor. The official “ Gazette ” announces that Sir Hercules Robinson haa been appointed a member of the Privy Council. February 11. An Unfoanded Rumottr. Information is to hand to the effect that there is no fonndation whatever for the report recently published that the special correspondent of the London “ Times ” had been murdered by Arnauts in Albania.
