A dioptric revolving light, with au electric arc, has b een constructed by Messrs Ckance Bros., of Smothwiuk, near Birmingham, for the South Head lighthouse at Sydney. The lamp has a power of about 12,000 candles in the focus of li<*ht, and the merging beam has a luminous intensity exceeding 12,000,000 candles. The lamp wa» designed by Dr Hopkinson, F.E.S. The Te Anau left Williamstown on February Ist, at 1 a.m.; arrived at Hobart on February 2nd, at 11 a.m.; left the same day at 8 p.m., and was off Milford Sound on the 6th, at 2 a.m. The weather throughout the passage waß aplen. did till Tasfc upon sighting land, when it became very thick, with a drizzling rain and rough sea. The Sound could not be entered till 12 noon. Passed through the Sonnd, and left at 3 p.m. Entered George Sonnd at 5 p.m., paßsed through and left at 7 pm., and arrived at the Bluff at noon oa the 7th.
