Company are sending home by every English vessel (says the Auckland “ Star”) large quantities of kauri timber, intended for deck planking in the now boats at present building. Kauri is considered much superior to the American woods, being free from knots, which occur so awkwardly in other woods available. The Antares, which is now loading on the wharf, will take abont 60.000 ft of sawn timber, averaging from 44fc to 66ft in length ; Bft x 3ft and 10ft x 4ft. To keep np the supply a large number of workmen are employed sawing both at South Wairoa and Orewa. Large blacks of mottled kanri were also required for panelling and other fancy work abont the cabins, but considerable difficulty has been experienced in obtaining the required lengths. Blocks 16ft long by 3ft diameter were sent for, but the cost is great, and they are very difficult to get down the country. Several fine specimens of mottled kauri are shipped by the Antares, and further consignment will follow per next London vessel. A boat destined to be propelled solely by electricity has just been completed, according to the French journal “ Lnmiero Eleotriquo.” The owner, M. Tellier, intends to launch it at Boulogne and to cross in it to Folkestone, in company with a friend. The boat is decked, and is about 18ft long by abont 4Vft wide.
