ST. ALBANS BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The usual fortnightly meeting of this body was held last evening. Present—hia Worship the Mayor and all the councillors.

A letter was read from tho Avon Boad Board, replying to a letter from the Council dated 16th January, conveying a resolution of the Board, viz.:—“ That the Board cannot agree to tho proposals of the Bt. Albans Borough Council, and will agree to no other course than that proposed in tho former resolution, and would be pleased to have the whole matter placed in tho hands of tho Commissioner of Audit with as little delay as possible.” Or. Turner moved, Or. Blakiston seconded, and it was unanimously agreed—“ That tho Mayor join with tho chairman of the Avon Road Board in an application to the Governor to appoint|tho Commissioner of Audit to adjust tho assets and liabilities between tho Board and tho Borough Council.” It was resolved on tho motion of Or. Matson —‘‘That permission be given to all slaughterhouse proprietors within the jurisdiction of the borough of St. Albans to slaughter as from the Ist January to Ist May next, and that the premines of such holders be subject to the inspection of the borough officer, who, upon reporting that the promises be not kept in pr per order, the permission to kill shall be cancelled forthwith.”

Messrs Wilkinson, Dollow and Thompson, occupiers of Church property in the borough, waited on the Council, and represented that their Ip.nds were heavily flooded in winter through defective drainage by the Drainage Board.

The deputation having fully explained tho matter, hie Worship promised to interview the Drainage Board on the subject. Or. Moor then moved —“ That the work# committee request that tho Drainage Board feneo or cover in the drains and creaks in the Edge ware and Shirley roads, near Mr Dickinson’s property.” Or. Dickinson seconded the motion, which was carried without dissent.

Or. Dickinson moved, and Or. Money seconded—“ That the Council labor gang be paid 7s per day each man.” This was carried unanimously.
