MAGISTERIAL.
CHRISTCHURCH. Tuesday, January 31. [Before B. Beetham, Esq., B.M.] Drunkenness. —David Wilson was fined 10a, and cab-hire le. For first offences two men were fined each ss, and ordered to pay cab-hire. Wm. Higgins, charged with drunkenness, was assisted into court trembling so violently as to be hardly able to stand. Sergeant Mason said prisoner was in a terrible state of delirium tremens, and asked for a remand. The prisoner was accordingly remanded for seven days, to receive medical treatment in the meantime.
Civil Oases. —Hill v Kelso, claim £3 for services as nurse, Mr Weston for defendant, who stated that ho had agreed to pay plaintiff a certain sum for her services. She got drunk after being a week in the house, and defendant turned her out, Tho wife of defendant gave corroborative evidence. Judgment for defendant with costs. —Ford v Duncan, £3 10s. Mr Stringer for defendant. Plaintiff deponed that at an auction held by him defendant bid for a horse, which was knocked down to him at £3 10b. Afterwards defendant refused to complete the purchase. Scott stated that he was present at tho sale, and heard defendant first bid for the horse, and afterwards deny having done so. Defendant, George Duncan, a farmer, of Dunsandel, stated that ho did not bid, nor had he ever seen tho horse in question. Plaintiff said if defendant had not been so abusive when requested to complete the purchase the present action would not have been brought. Judgment for plaintiff, with costs.—Yoyce v Baker, £3 4i, for reiat; judgment for plaintiff with costs. Judgment was for plaintiff by default, with coats, in Percy v Banks. Lambert v Hern was adjourned till February Ist, Petersen v Morrison till February 6th, and Wilkin and Co. v Eyan till February 13th.
