The auditors' report remitted upon the amount of rates which were outstanding, or had been remitted. In the Avon district particularly the amount of rates remitted or written oft web exceedingly large, as also in the Heathooto district. The Board dealt with the correspondence as follows :—The letter of the Heathoote Bead Board respecting Buckley’s road was referred to the engineer to report upon. The cost of making goci the damage actually done by the Board. With regard to the letter from the same Board as to the bad state of Mathoson’o road, the engineer stated that the matter was now being attended to. It was decided to reply to Mr Attwood that tho Board do not consider that they are in possession of his paddock. The Board decided in reference to the letter of Mr W. R. Attwood, complaining of the growth of thistles along the outfall drain to rater tho matter to tho engineer to report upon. Hr Tubbing’s loiter was dealt with similarly. Mr Stringer’s letter claiming compensation was also referred to the engineer to report. The consideration cf Mr Williamson’s letter was deterred. Tho petition of the ratepayers of Spreydon was referred to tho engineer to report upon. The Board accepted the accounts as audited.

Mr White moved—“ That application be made to tho different Koad Boards for particulars of amounts of remission of rates made by thorn, and also those lost, as shown in the balance-sheet."

The motion was seconded by Mr Jones and agreed to. A deputation from Now Brighton waited on the Board with reference to a culvert across the road. The deputation requested the Board to substitute largar pipes for those now across tho jLowor Flat road. Tho pipes now in were only eight, inches in diameter, and these wore not sufficient to carry off the water. The deputation, having stated their case, retired. After some discussion, Mr Jones moved—“ That the Drainage Board lay the pipes of increased size, as requested by the deputation.” 'The motion was subsequently withdrawn, on tho nndorstanding that Mr Jones would give notice of motion on tho subject. A conversational discussion ensued, and ultimately it was decided to defer the consideration of tho matter till next meeting, tho secretary to look up ail the information connected with the decision of tho late Board on the subject. Accounts to the amount of £306 8s lOd were passed for payment. Mr White, pursuant to notice, moved “ That the wages of day laborers be increased by sixpence per day.” Dr. Doyle seconded the motion, which was put and agreed to. The Board then adjourned.
