MELBOURNE, January 24. Ship Ashore. Telegrams are to hand reporting that a largo ship, name unknown, ia ashore in Waratah Bay, on the southern coast of this colony, the vessel’s position is, however, stated to he not dangerous. Pratique. The first and second class passengers per Garonne will be released from quarantine to-day. Obituary. Colonel Anderson, commandant of the Yictorian Yolunteers, is dead. Maintenance Claim. A hitch has occurred in regard to the Garonne’s passengers who have been liberated from quarantine. The agents of the latter are demanding snstenance money for the period of their detention, but the Government have declined to interfere. Sugar. A Mauritius telegram dated tho 4th instant reports that 400 tons of sugar have been engaged for Lyttelton. ShippingSailed, this afternoon—Union Company’s steamship Albion, for the Bluff. The Hon. Peter Lalor, Speaker of the Yictorian Legislative Assembly, is a passenger by her. SYDNEY, January 24. The Wotonga Inquiry. The certificate of Captain McLean, of the steamship Wotonga, has been suspended by the Marino Board for three months. The case of the mate will be decided by the Board to-day.
