REAPER AND BINDER TRIAL.

The trial of reapers and binders, under th< aucpices of theOanterbury Agricultural and Fas toral Association, was held at Burnside (th< estate of Mr Boag), yesterday. The trial wai oonduoted on the following basis:—There wen two classes, one for wire and one for twine A gold medal will be awarded to the winnini machice in each olass, and a certificate ci merit to the machine placed second. Tin judges are eight in number—viz., five prao tical farmers and three mechanical expertsnamely, Messrs Sharp, Wills, W. MeMillai, G-ill and J. Osborne, Oroll, P. Dancan an. Kidd. To each machine four aores of whet and two acres of oats were apportioned, ant the trial, owing to the threatening weathe, did not oommence till half past one o'oloc'. Twelve machinescompeted,viz:—Wire bir.dea —Aultman, entered by Messrs Twentymin and Cousin ; McOormick, entered by Mesrs Morrow, Bassett, and Co.; Osborne, entefld by Messrs R. Wilkin and Co. String bincers Howard's Simplex, entered by M«sra Twentyman and Cousin ; McOormiok, enured by Messrs Morrow, Bassett, and Oo.; Samuelson's, entered by Messrs Samielson and Co.; Bsterly, entered by Messrs G. Booth and Son; Excelsior, entered »y Mr John Anderson; Wood's (2), enteied by Messrs Wood, Shand, and Co.; leering, entered by Messrs Mason, Struthers aad 00. ; OBborne, enterod by Messrs K. Wilkin and 00. A ballot for places resulted in thafollowin order, namely:— No. 1. Osborne string binder. No, 2. Excelsior string binder. Nob. 3 and 4. Daering string binder. No. 5. Howard's Simplex. No. 6. McCormick's string binder. No. 7. Samuelson's string binder. Nos. 8 and 9. Wood's string bindf No. 10. Aultman's wire binder. No. 11. McOormick's wire binde' No. 12. Osborne's wire binder.
