CURIOUS PHENOMENON.
A very singular occurrence is reported from the Manning River distriot, Queensland. Two travellers, while on a drive, were suddenly enveloped by a flame of fire, or rather lightning, accompanied by a hissing sound, as though a quantity of hot iron were being placed suddenly into water, which was followed by one of the most terrific crashes of thunder, so loud that the ponies started off at full gallop, terror stricken. Soon after, another terrible flash of lightning seemed to pass, followed by another crash of thunder. These were followed by a_ third explosion, quite as bad as the first. With an etoeption of one or two rumbles of distant thunder, there was not the slightest sign of a storm, either beforo or after the phenomenon.
