ANGLO-JEWISH ASSOCIATION.

The eighth annual meeting of the Canterbury branch of the above association was held yesterday, at noon, at the old Synagogue Chambers. There was a large attendance of members, who took the liveliest possible interest in the proceedings. The Be v. I. Zaohariab, the president of the branch, occupied the chair, and in a very eloquent address gave a description of the progress of the association to the present date and the work accomplished by tho branch during the past year. In the course of his address the president referred to the fact that this association was a benefit not only to the Jewish people but to suffering humanity throughout the world. He thought that sufficient interest in the work of the branch was not evinced by some of the leading Jewish residents who, he regretted to observe were, on that as on former occasions, conspicuous by their absence. The time, he ventured to hope, was not far distant when their Christian brethren would be found uniting with them in the work, and taking an active part in the operations of the various branches throughout the colony. He desired to congratulate the members upon the suooess attending their efforts during the past year, not only here but also in Dunedin and Wellington, where branches had been recently opened. Mr S. Nashelski referred to the great distress existing in Russia and other parts of the continent of Europe, and with a view of rendering further assistance, suggested that the members should supplement their subscriptions for the ensuing year. Mr Nashelski's suggestion was put in the form of a resolution, and carried unanimously. The following gentlemen were re-eleoted as office bearers for tho ensuing year :—President and treasurer, Rev. I. Zachariah; hon. sec, Mr L. Cohen ; committee, Messrs I. Herman, S. Nashelski, P. Selig and M. Cohen. Votes of thanks wore passed to tho retiring officers, and to Messrs M.Harris and Son for valuable servioes rendered to the association.
