CaMBBIDGE BACES. [.PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.] AUCKLAND, January 12. The attendance at the second day's Cambridge races was smaller than yesterday. The principal events were: — Handicap Hurdles, 30 sovs. Bawenata... ... ... ... 1 Blue Gum 2 Lonehand baulked at the first and second burdles, threw hfs rider, and was pulled out of the race. Blue Gum also baulked. Bawenata won by half a mile. Publicans' Purse, 75 sovs. Lara ... ... ... ... + Tim Whiffler t Kandwiek ... ... ... 3 Maori, Kenilwortb, Paramena, and Oraku also ran. In the straight, Whiffler overhauled Lara, and another stride would have made him sole winner. Waikato Steeplechase, 50 sovs ; four miles, over fair hunting country. Clarence 1 Hard Times kept the lead to within one hundred yards from home, when he swerved at a fence, and Clarence won by half a length. Harkaway brought up the rear. Grand Stand Handicap, 25 sovs. Kenilworth won by a length from Vampire ; Paramena third. Miss Domett, Kenilworth, and Flora also ran.
