NEWS FROM THE CAPE.
[By Tbleobaph.] [Per s.s, Arawata, at the Bluff.j CAPETOWN, December 3. Hoffmeyer, who recently held a position in the Ministry, but without portfolio, and drew no salary, has withdrawn from the Ministry without assigning a reason. It is thought that this step has been takeu in consequence of what appeared in the “ Argus,” viz., that the split in the Ministry was owing to the present intended arrangements of the Government. The “ Zina African ” (Hoffmeyer’s own newspaper) states that neither the Dutch nor English question, nor Mr Morriman’s condemnation of the land lately at Grief Beinnet, had anything to do with it.
Mr Uppington, Attorney-General in Mr Sprigg’s Cabinet, has published a protest against the removal of Oetewayo from the custody of the Colonial Government, maintaining the right of the latter to bo consulted before Oetewayo can bo removed out of the colony. It is said, however, that it has been arranged that Henrique, his stepson, shall conduct the Zulu King, with three of his chiefs, to England early next year. The news from Basutoland shows a very unsettled stale of feeling there. The loyalists distrust the Government, which does nothing to support them, and tho rebels openly slight it. The news from tho Transvaal shows that great uneasiness still prevails in tho Walkerslroom district, owing to the attitude of tho Natives consequent on a change of Government. Many people are still said to be fleeing from Lydenburg to Pretoria, and since tho departure of the troops great depression prevails everywhere. The cancellation of Mr Sendall’s appointmont was everywhere received with satisfac'lion. The Natalians desire Sir Evelyn Wood as Governor. The share market in Kimberley is suffering seriously from the forced sales. The Central Mining Company held a quarterly general meeting, but declared no dividend.
