The New Zealand International Exhibition promoted by Messrs Joubert and Tnropeny opens at Christchurch on March 15th. Commodore Frskine, with the Australian squadron, will bo present at the opening ceremony, and tho commandant of tho French squadron at New Caledonia will also send a man of war if the New Zealand Government make official application for it. Mr Hawker, of Smth Australia, and Mr Perkins, one of the Queensland Ministers, telegraphed from Pott Macquarrie, staling that tne wreck of the Wotonga was directly attributable to gross negligence on the part of the whole watch. The night was perfectly clear, arc! although it was moonlight, the vessel steamed full speed ashore. The crow wore overworked and disorganised, and the management throughout was wretched. Bishop Short delivered a farewell address in the Cathedral on Sunday. Ho shortly leaves for Europe. There are now 538 miles of railway open in the colony, of which 158 were opened last yeor. One hundred and forty-six miles are in course of construction.
