AGRICULTURAL & PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the committee of the above was held at 2 p.m. yesterday. Present—Messrs J. B. Hill (in the chair), B. Sutherland, Henderson, Money, Mann, Gilmour, Boag, Ferguson, J. Anderson, junr., Norman, Bruce and Walla. Several accounts were passed for payment. The following correspondence was read : Prom the Sydenham Borough Council, forwarding an account of cost of watering Colombo road, and asking for a contribution in aid of the amount paid—£4. It was agreed to contribute £2 towards the cost. The report of the grass seed stripper trial held on January 3rd, was read. The data of bolding the Ram Fair for 1882 was fixed for Thursday and Friday, March 23rd and 21th. The usual trial of reapers and binders, under the auspices of the Association, was fixed to take place on the property of Mr W. Boag at Burnside, Fendaltown, on or about Tuesday, 17th January. The secretary read the proposed conditions under which the contest should take place. The conditions provided that there there should be two classes, viz., for twine and wire, the maximum points to be twenty-five, and minimum five. He thought it probable that eight or ten machines would compete at the trial. The committee went through the conditions seriatim. It was decided to omit tbe clause providing for the statement of the price of wire and twine binder attachments, and also those referring to the weight of twine and gauge of wire. It was decided to eliminate from the points for judging those proposed to be awarded for the combination of twine and and wire in the one machine. The committee selected the judges, and then proceeded to elect the marshals, as follows, viz.: Messrs Gilmour, Mann, Walls, Mcßeath, Bruce, Sutherland, Ferguson, Henderson, Money, J. Qebbio, P. Duncan, 8. Garforth, J. Miln, Boss, and Thomas. It was decided not to allow any horses or traps inside tbe field where the machines were at work, and that the public should not be allowed to follow the maonines until after eleven o’clock. On the motion of Mr Norman, it was decided that Mrs Duncan be allowed to take her choice of the two portraits of the late Mr A. Duncan now in the possession of tbe Association, and that it be presented forthwith. This concluded the business, and the meeting adjourned.
