[FEB PBKSS ABSOOIATIOH.] AUCKLAND, Deoember 26. Maternal Instinct The son of W. A. McKenzie, Wangarei, was gored to death by a cow while taking a oalf away from it. DTJNEDIN, Deoember 26. Fire. A fire at Maoandrew's Bay on Friday night destroyed a stable and other outbuildings belonging to Mr Mscandrew, M.H.R. They were insured in the Standard for £2OO. The additional loss is £2OO. Tram Accident A young man named MoVickers was knocked down by a tramoar on Saturday night and badly hurt, but not dangerously. Ihe driver was in no way to blame. Holiday Making. By the Ohristchurch express on Saturday n'ght over 500 people arrived, and by the Invercargill train about 420. Of these 450 had excursion tickets. On Saturday morning 200 went North with excursion tickets, 130 went to the Lakes, and in the evening 130 went to Ohristchurch. This morning another large batch of excursionists went to the Lakes. Marine Disaster. The barque Oanymede has arrived a iPort Chalmers in a dismasted oondition. She was from Tim'aru to Newcastle in ballast, and got as far South as Stewart's Island, where her ballast shifted. The boats were got out, as the ship appeared to be in a sinking condition, and it was only after the. most strenuous exertions that the crew succeeded in getting the vessel righted by cutting away the masts, and the men then set to work to trim the ballast. Sho had eight passengers, who speak moßt highly of the conduct of Capt. Morgan, his officers and orew.
