[beuteb's telegbams.] MELBOURNE, December 26. The Intercolonial Match. The intercolonial cricket match between Eleven of Yictoria and New South Wales was resumed here to-day. The first innings of the New South Wales team closed for 146 runs, and being 86 behind their opponents, they followed their innings, and when the stumps were drawn for the day had put together 100 runs for the loss of four wickets. BRISBANE, December 26. The New President. Sir Arthur Palmer, Colonial Secretary, has been appointed President of the Legislative Council, vice Sir Joshua Bell, deceased. Mr Thomas Mcllraith, Premier, will assume the position of Colonial Secretary, vice Sir Arthur Palmer, in addition to the Colonial Secretaryship. SYDNEY, December 26. Smallpox. A fresh case of smallpox has been reported to the Health Board. The sufferer is one of the persons detained at the Sanitorium.
