WANGANUI, December 22. Heavy FloodThere is a very heavy fresh in the river, which rose suddenly in the night and carried away a punt containing the new steam crane, just made for use to connect with the dredge. The crane was seen going over the bar, and it is feared it has capsized. A number of small boats were carried away, the boathouse staging broken up, and other damage done.
DUNEDIN, December 22. AquaticDunedin will be represented at the Lyttelton regatta by a crew, consisting of Lindsay (two), Binnio and Mercer. The Runs Question. A public meeting to consider the runs question is convened for to-morrow. FireTwo four-roomed houses in South Dunedin were burned down this morning, and a_ third partially destroyed. Insurances —£300 in the Northern, £IOO in the New Zealand, £2OO in the Standard, £l5O in the National and £2OO in the Victoria.
