HORORATA RACES.

A correspondent writing on tho 16th sends us the following : —Perhaps it would interest some of your sporting readers to see a word or two on the present prospects of the Hororata race meeting on January 3rd, as well as the horses expeoted to show up on that occasion. The race committee have substituted rails in lieu of rope on one side of the "run in" in a very substantial manner, and have also erected a small platform for the stewards in the saddling paddock. The course, I regret to say, has had nothing done to it since last year, and is as hard as flint. The plough gallop however has been ploughed and well cleared of stones. But one mistake ought to be remedied in tho future—namely, feeding the oourae down with sheep nearly to the roots. Now as to the horses. Those destined to compete in the Maiden Plate, ono mile, havo noarly ull being doing good work, conspicuously so is the case of tho throe-year-old belonging to Mr Trafford. He is by Hibernian, and though rather plain at present, he may ripen into a good colt. Mr Thorno's mare Brunette has been up and doing a long time, and I believe her time record for a mile is something undeniable. These are the favourites. There will be about three others, hut I do not know much of their doings. Don Juan, Albion, Terror, Brockley, and Bouser are nominated for the Bakaia Gorge Handicap. The favorite seems to be the Don. For the Hororata Cup I hardly think there will be more than three nominations. For the Hurdles, Bouser, Shark (Brown's), Brockley, The Breeza are nominated, and I think the race will lie between the two first named though Brockley is a very dark one. The Breeze, though a good horse, has hardly done work enough. For the Ladies' Purse, I expect to see about four, and Shark onght to win it. Of the trot I shall say nothing, as I know not the horses that will enter. Mr Digby, the former secretary of the club, resigned in June last, and was sucotedod by Mr W. Eollitt.
