SYDENHAM BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The usual fortnightly meeting of the Sydenham Borough Council was held last night at the Oouneil Chambers. Present— Hia Worship the Mayor (in the chair) Org. White, Pavitt, Hall, Langdown, Webber, Joyce, Nichols, Forester and Andrew.—A letter was read from Mr E. Q-. Wright, respecting his efforts to secure representation for tho Council on the Lyttelton Harbor Board. He thanked the Council for their approval of his action. —The report of the finance committee showed that the receipts for the past fortnight had been £l9l 2s Bd, and tho expenditure £4Bl 4s 3d. The credit balance at the Bank was £562 16s si. The committee recommended that as a tenant of the Counoil had defaulted in his rent, the reserve should be re-let, and that the Town Clerk should be recognised as the head of the employes of the Council, to bejheld responsible for the proper performance of the duties of his subordinates. After some discussion the consideration of this matter was referred to the joint committees of work and finances. The report was then adopted. It was resolved to ask the A. and P. Association for a contribution towards the cost of watering the approaohes to their grounds during their late show. The report of the works committee stated that they had instructed the foreman of works to proceed with the construction of Disraeli street, and requested further consideration of the question of conorete channeling for the borough. On the motion of Or. Hall, seconded by Or. Langdown, it was resolved to request the works committee to inspect tho plans oE the building going up for an Oddfellows' Hall, with a view to seouring the proruion of adequate vomitoriums. This report was also adopted. The seal of the Council was ordered to be affiled to a contraot for scavengering with Mr Brightling. The report of the sanitary committee was adopted. Reference was made to a deputation which had waitod on tho Hon. W. Eolleoton about the endowment reserves. The proceedings on that occasion were reported in the Pbebs, which report having been placed as a record in tho books of the Council, was now taken as read. The deputation had as yet nothing to add to what appeared in the newspaper. There was no other business, and the meeting terminated.
