[eetjtee’s teleqeams.] MELBOURNE, November 28. Shipping. Arrived, last evening—P. and O. Company’s steamship Rome, with the English mails, dated London, October 12th. An Insurance Agent. The action Corr v the Standard Insurance Company of New Zealand, to recover the insurance on the schooner Alma, which has been proceeding for a week past, was concluded to-day, and resulted in a verdict for the plaintiff for the full amount claimed. HOBART, November 28. The Eruption. Hundreds of people yesterday visited the scene of the fire which has been raging in the vicinity of Snug river since the extraordinary disturbance which occurred on Thursday last. The accounts which come to hand are most contradictory. The “ Mercury ” to-day expresses the belief that the fire is caused by burning peatmoss.
