[Br Telegraph.j [Per s.s. To Anan, at the Bluff.] LONDON, November 17. Serious disturbances have taken place in tho parish of Olonmulty, County Cork, where the peasantry attacked tho constabulary and a fight ensued. Several arrests were made. More outrages are reported from Ireland. An attempt was made to murder a gentleman, a resident of Westmeath and Deputy-Lieu-tenant for tho county. He was fired at by two men, but they missed their aim, end ho escaped uninjured. The Marquis of Lome, Governor-General of Canada, has arrived in England on a visit. It is anticipated that his stay will not be long, and that his wife, the Princess Louise, will return with him. A Convention is being held in Chicago to consider the tariff. Tho question is exciting much attention, but amongst the delegates drawn from all parts of tho United States a strongly protective feeling is evinced. The Indian Government have decided to despatch an expedition to punish the predatory tribe of Aboo. Preparations have been completed, and the force will shortly start. An Irishman has been arrested by tho police at Bornberg, a town in the Duchy of Anhalt, in the German Empire, charged with purchasing from a local manufacturer clockwork intended for on infernal machine. He is supposed to be an agent for the Fenian organisation, and to have been engaged in furthering their nefarious designs for destroying British shipping and other property by means of dynamite and explosive machines. There is a strong feeling among tho Zulus in favor of reviving tho kingship over their notion, which has been dormont since tho capture and imprisonment of Ring Cetewoyo. John Dunn, an Irishman, who was one of the chiefs recognised by the British Government in their settlement of affairs in Zululand at the close of the late war is a candidate for tho kingly office, and will probably receive a large amount of support from tho Zulu chiefs and people. Extensive emigration has set in among the Jsws in Southern Russia, who have suffered so much from tho recent persecution and outrages inflicted on them by tho Russian peasantry and townspeople. A largo number have already arrived in the United States, and many more are preparing to follow. A destructive firo has occurred at Valparaiso, the capital and chief seaport town of tho South American republic of Ohili. The custom house was burned to the ground, and tho damage done is estimated at 1,000,000 dollars.
A terrible outrage has been perpetrated at Wexford. Ireland. A lady, an owner of property in that locality, has been brutally murdered. Her house was entered at night, and she was killed while sleeping in bed. The perpetrators of the deed have escaped. Mr Bright, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, has received many addresses today congratulating him on having attained his seventieth birthday. Tho American wheat harvest shows a deficiency of 100,000,000 bushels. William Bathbone Gregg, a well-known writer on political and social science, died yesterday, aged 73. The steamer Solway, 792 tons, of Hartlepool, has been destroyed by an explosion which occurred on the voyage from Bristol to Glasgow. It was first supposed that the vessel had been destroyed by dynamite, which had been wilfully placed on board for that purpose, but au investigation showed that the occurrence was accidental, and was caused by the explosion of a consignment of naptha, which formed a part of the cargo. Twelve persons on board lost their lives. Tho inhabitants of Herzegovina, one of the provinces of European Turkey which Austria was permitted to occupy under the Berlin treaty in 1878, are exhibiting much uneasiness and irritation at the policy of annexation recently announced by Austria. Conflicts have occurred in several parts of the province between tho Austrian troops and Herzegovinians. Tho Chief Mapooh, who occupies a strong position in the north-east of the Transvaal, has again risen against the Boers. A general rising of tho Kaffir tribes is anticipated. November 20.
Tho thieves who succeeded in carrying off £40,000 worth of diamonds from Hatton Garden Post Office havo not yet been discovered. The occurrence of this robbery has directed attention to the fact that many post offices ere left solely in charge of women, and there is a groat outcry against tho system. The Admiralty authorities havo directed that tho detached squadron, under ViceAdmiral Earl Olanwilliam, shall visit China, and subsequently India. Their Boyal Highnesses Prince Edward and Prince George will both remain attached to tho squadron during this prolonged cruise. Mr Fawcett, British Consul-General and Judge of the Supremo Consular Court at Constantinople, has directed the release of fourteen English boys, who for some tim? have been enslaved by persons resident in tho Turkish capital. Tho lads are all Londoners.
