Alleged Bank Defalcations The “ Ago ” to-day publishes a paragraph stating that a deficiency of £SOOO was recently discovered in the boqks of the Union Bank of Australia, and that an official who was implicated has since returned the money. In connection with the recent disclosures in the Bank of Victoria, it is stated that Mr Matheson, the general manager, retires from his position, and that Mr Shaun, who succeeded tho delinquent Thorpe as teller, has resigned. A Contradiction. Mr Laer, the manager of tho Union Bank, declares that there is no foundation for the statement in the “ Age ” of to-day regarding defalcations in that institution. Shipping.
