F. Sherwood has been elected the first Mayor of Patea. TAUBANGA, November 16. Singular Deaths. A Native named Tawhinga was drowned at Oh.’nemutu, on Monday night. He went into a hot bath on the edge of Lake Rotorua, apparently fell asleep, aud was found drowned the following morning. Soon afterwards a Maori woman was found drowned in a hot bath near the post-office under similar circumstances. INVERCARGILL, November 16, ElectoralThe Mataura electoral roll shows 1500 names, and the InvercargiU roll 918 freehold and 855 residential claims. Mi- Bhanks, the late member, he 1 retired from the contest for Mataura. Mr Richardson and Captain McKenzie both spoke at Mataura last night. The former said if he had been in the Assembly last year he should have supported Mr Hall. OAMPBELLTOWN, November 16. Heavy FloodThe Bluff township was flooded last night, owing to extraordinarily heavy rain. The water was three feet deep in some places.
