From, argeant Gilbert, acknowledging receipt of esolution passed by the Council re fireworks. Ihe surveyor reported that the swing bridgehad been repaired according to the “commendations of sub-committeethat the channelling in Black street and works Akaroa street were being carried out Mr Fraser had applied to have the footpath near his store laid with concrete, on the usual conditions. The report was adopted. It was decided that the Mayor and Or. Smith inspect the footpath referred to by Mr Tibbott. The Mayor said he had written to the Government, inquiring if the Council would be permitted to sell the cemetery reserve by auction for cash. He explained that the sanction of the Governor would be required to such sale of the reserve. The Mayor’s action was approved. Or. Pinching said that it was unfair to the police that persons who were summoned for cattle trespass should be so lightly dealt with at the Resident Magistrate s Court. The finance committee reported receipts for past two weeks to be £8 10s the overdraft at the Bank was £BS; accounts amounting; to £bS were naased. Or. Woodford considered that h woSd not be requisite to light all the street lamps during the summer months, it was decided that the matter be referred to the lighting committee, to report at next meeting With reference to works in progress m Akaroa street. Or. Stanton said that it was not necessary to have a man there all day, as he was not fully employed m spreading tho metal. Or. Moore thought that this was a matter for enquiry, and moved—“ That the Mayor and Or. Parnham be a committee to enquire into the matter, to report at next meeting.” The clerk read a specification ot tho work, which provided that a man should bo on the ground all day. The motion waa lost. The half-yearly statement of account# was laid on the table, but as it was only certified to by one auditor, it was resolved to defer consideration of it until next meeting. The Council then adjourned.
