A correspondent in the “Star” proposes to raise a fund for the relief and defence of Xe Whiti, and forwards a subscription. Sir George Grey. Nothing is yet settled as to Sir George Grey's political tour or address to the electors of City East. OAMABU, November 10. Volunteer Review. A very successful review took place at Otepopo on the Prince of Wales’ Birthday, the companies forming the battalion meeting at that place for inspection and to engage in a sham fight. After these features of the day’s proceedings bad been successfully disposed of, various sports were indulged in. The number on parade was about 300. DUNEDIN, November 10. Proposed Harbour Improvement. A company is proposed to be formed to build a bridge across the upper harbor. The Harbor .Board was asked to-day to sanction the work. Frozen Meat Industry. The Refrigeratory Company has received advice of the shipment of their machinery from London. A Wesleyan Delegate. The Rev. Mr Best has been elected district representative to the Wesleyan Conference in Christchurch in January. [from the own correspondent of the “ pebss,”] WELLINGTON, November 11. At a meeting of the Standing Committee of the Wellington Diocesan Synod to-night a resolution was unanimously carried tendering the hearty congratulations of the diocese to the Primate on the consecration of the Christchurch Cathedral. The Bishop was requested to transmit the resolution to the Primate.
Of the ninety-one election writ* thirty-two were transmitted by telegraph late last night, and of these five have already been telegraphed back in accordance with the provisions of the now Aot (Regulation of Elections, 1881). The rest have gone by post. Mr Hall leaves by the Wanaka to-morrow on his way to Selwyn to commence his election campaign. __
