CHRISTCHURCH. Friday, November 11. [Before G. L. Hellish, Esq., B.M.]

Drunkenness. —For being drank, two men were fined 5s each. Rowdyism. — W. Oribb and W. Browdie were brought up for creating a disturbance by fighting in a boarding house kept by Thomas Fowler, on Thursday night. In the course of the row Browdie broke four panes of glass and made use of filthy language to Mrs Fowler. Oribb broke one pane of glass. Browdie was fined 20s for using obscene language, 10s for committing a breach of the peace, and ordered to pay damages 20s, or go to gaol for five days. Oribb was fined 10s and ordered to pay damages 6s and cab-hire 3s, or be imprisoned for twenty-four hours with hard labor.

LYTTELTON. Friday, November 11. (Before H. Allwright and F. Ronalds. Esqs., J.P.’e.] Deserting prom an American Barque. —August Nelson, August Melon, Owen Neilson, deserters from the Chattanooga, an American barque, Captain Holmes, from Boston. Mr H. N. Nalder appeared for the defendant Melon, and, on his behalf, stated that he was quite willing to return to the barque if protected against alleged brutal treatment by the second officer. The captain said that the man had made a complaint to him, and the matter had been investigated by the American Consular agent. They were sent to gaol for fourteen days. Civil Oases. —Rouse y Webb, claim £l9' Plaintiff said ho had received a notice of defendant’s bankruptcy. Judgment had been obtained some four years since to be paid at £1 per month, but only some three or four payments had been made. Now the defendant had filed for no other purpose but to evade the payment of the claim. The man was in constant lucrative employment. The Bench made an order for £5 per month, in default fourteen days’ imprisonment. McOlatohie and Mclntosh v W. Bradshaw, judgment summons for £8 2s 6d. Mr Nalder for plaintiffs. Court ordered that the amount be paid in a week, in default one month’s imprisonment, with costs £1 lls. Bouse vJ. Pope, claim £l. Judgment by default. Bogse v Sinclair, £2 Gs. Mr Nalder for plaintiff. Ordered to pay 5s per week. T. Reeves v Griffiths, claim £2B 7s, for balance rent account. Defendant put in a number of receipts, all of which, however, were dated anterior to the date of the claim as made in the summons. Judgment was given for the plaintiff, with costs, and solicitor's fee £3 3s.
