In lighting tho gas in the shop window of Messrs Linabury and Co,, drapers, Queen street, to-night, the lighting taper accidentally set fire to some goods hanging in the window. Tho assistant, Daniel Thomas, was badly burned about tho head, face and arms. He endeavored to suppress the fire, but tho flames smashed the plateglaes front, causing a draught. Two young men leaped through the aperture, and aided by some bystanders with buckets of water quickly suppressed the fire. The estimated damage by fire and water is £BOO. The stock is insured for £IOOO in tho South British, £550 in the New Zealand, and £1750 in tho National.
