MAGISTERIAL.
CHRISTCHURCH Monday - , November 7.
Drunkenness. —Wm Warner, for being drunk, was fined 20s. Robert Finney, who was arrested for being drunk while in charge of a horse in High street on Sunday, was fined 20s. John Keeling, for being drunk in Hagley Park, for resisting the constable who arrested him, and for damaging the trap which conveyed him to the lookup, was fined 20s and ordered to pay damages 10s. For first offences, two men wore fined 5s each. A woman, arrested for being drunk, appeared so strange in her manner that she was ordered to he remanded for medical examination.
Assault. —J. E. Bashford was charged with having assaulted, by kicking, a boy named James Davis, formerly in the employment of defendant. Mr Thomas appeared for defendant. After hearing evidence, the Magistrate said the case was a trivial one, and inflicted a fine of Is and costs 7a.
Pbotbction Obdbb. —Maria Hanson applied for an order protecting her earnings against her husband, Peter Hansen, and for the custody of two children, Mr Salter appeared for the prosecution; defendant did not appear. The complaint of plaintiff was that her husband had frequently bidden her to clear out, and had cruelly ill-used her children, especially the eldest—eigteen months old—who was very sickly. After hearing evidence, the Magistrate said ho thought there was not proof enough to warrant the granting of the application. It was ordered to stand over for a fortnight, the police being instructed to make enquiries meanwhile and report. A case against the same defendant for using abusive and threatening language towards Boseudale was ordered to be heard also on November 21st. Miscellaneous. —James Mills and WilBrooker, for allowing horses to wander, wore fined each ss, A similar charge against A, E. Tutton was adjourned till November 21st. John Judge, for allowing sheep to wander at Lincoln, was fined ss. James Badcliffe and David Patrick, for leaving horses and vehicles unattended, were fined XOs each. John Kitohin,for failing to provide outhouse accommodation for premises near Oranmer square, was fined 10s. Eliza Bedman was convicted of having used profane and obscene language in a house on the North Town belt. The language complained of was quite audible to people passing by and neighbors. She was fined 20s, and cautioned.
