[Br Tbxbgbaph.] [Per s.s. Te Anau, at the Bluff ] MELBOURNE, October 19. The debate on the Education Commission occupied the Assembly all the week. Several Liberal members are supporting the appointment of the Commission on the ground that a Liberal catena held in the days of th 9 Berry Government formed a politically pledged party. The Explosives Board recommend that in all instances dynamite, gun cotton, and explosives of a kindred nature, be stored in underground magazines, isolated from buildings. Patrick James Kennedy, arrested in New Zoaland for en.bezz!omer:t, has been committed for trial.
J. E. Neall, herbalist, charged with causing the death of Margaret Smith, has been convicted of manslaughter. The Bale of the Ercildonne stud sheep realised .£9300.
SYDNEr, October 19. The heavy gale experienced last week waß felt with great severity on the eastern coast. The ship Keelning, from Vancouver's Island to Melbourne, with a carge of timber, felt the full force of the gale, and for a time was in great danger. Several seamen wero severely injure! ; one died, and two seamen were swept off the deck by the tr-m9ndou3 sea, bnt washed aboard again by the next. The ketch Violet capsized fifty miles to the east of Manning River ; one of the crew was severely injured. The barque Schoolboy was wreaked near Port Stephens, and all hands were lost. A portion of the stern of the vessel, with her namo painted on it, has been foucd.
