After landing the Naval Brigade and Major Atkinson at Opunate she proceeds to Nelson for the Volunteers, and thence to Opunake again. NEW PLYMOUTH, October 26. Captain Davidson (who is alio the Mayor of New Plymouth) left at 8 o’clock this morning with his corps, the Mounted Rifles, for Pungarehu for active service. The troops were only notified at midday yesterday that their services would be required. They were heartily cheered as they rode through the town.
