[per press association.] NEW PLYMOUTH, October 22. Native Crisis. A large number of Natives were in town from Parihaka to-day. They purchased nine tons of flour and some sugar. They were questioned es to whether the news of the proelomation had reached Parihaka. They said “No,” and purchased a copy of the “ Herald ” with it in. One of tho Natives who could read English perused it, and said he would take it to Te Whili who, he was sure would not care, as he knew all that would happen to the Maoris, and could turn the pakehas away at his will. AUCKLAND. October 22.

There has been a good deal of speculation as to how Sir Arthur Gordon received the intelligence of the Native crisis in this colony, and it was erroneously stated that a telegram was sent by way of Oooktown. The conjecture has been sot at rest by the arrival of the Southern Cross from Fiji. It no v turns out that the intelligence was conveyed to LovuVa by that vessel, as very soon after her arrival steam was got up on tbe Emerald, and Sir Arthur set out under full steam for New Zealand. Whether he obtained the information from telegrams or private sources does not appear. A report obtained cuirency in Fiji that war had actually bioken out in New Zealand.

The Fiji “Times” says: —"As will be seen from New Zealand intelligence, while Sir A. Gordon has been busying himself with affairs in connection with whioh his services were neither desired nor appreciated, matters whioh are his own proper concern have assumed a very serious completion.” Fiji News. A Fijian on the Levu coast hurled a spear at his wife, which entered her back and lungs, causing death. The man has been committed for murder.

Oases of elephantiases are very numerous amongst the Natives of F ji. The German lines of steamers intend to make a monthly service from Brisbane, via Fiji, to Samoa, The mest and bowsprit of a cutter, about 25 tons, was washed ashore at Lakemba. The Auckland built schooner Coral Queen was floated off a reef, when she went ashore. Walter Hunt was arrested on arrival at Samoa. Ho was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment by tbe High Commissioner's Court. DUNEDIN, October 21. Political. Mr John Bathgate is a candidate for Boslyn and Councillor Barnes for the City East.
