CHRISTCHURCH. Wbdnebday, October 12. [Before J, Nugent Wood, Beq , R.M.j Wipe Desertion. John Charles O’Donoghue was brought up on remand from the previous day, charged as above. His wife, Margaret Clara, deposed that prisoner loft her on October Ist without means of subsistence. They had been married nearly four months. Ho had no apparent reason for leaving her. He went to Wellington by the Hiuemoa os a stowaway when sho took up tha recruits. Prosecutor sent a warrant after him and he was arrested and brought back. Prisoner stated ho had no intention of deserting her ; ho wont up to join the constabulary. He was now willing to go back to bis wife. On this promise ho was discharged. Larceny. —Henry Quick, charged with stealing a pump, stove, <tc., was remanded on the application of tho police till the 15th inst., bail being allowed, himself in £6O and two sureties in £25 each. Stealing an Anchor. —Antonio Bortozzi was brought up on warrant charged with stealing an anchor, value £l, the property of T. R. H. Taylor, at Wellington,on September 21st. He was remanded, to appear at Wellington on the 18th inst., bail being accepted, himself in £SO, and two sureties in £25 each.

Maintenance Orders. —Oases against the undermentioned for failure to pay as per order of Court were dealt with as follows : Henry Lewis, for his children at Burnham, adjourned four weeks; Thomas Coleman, for his children at Burnham, adjourned till October 26th; Jos Cummings, for his wife and children, adjourned till October 16th ; Neil McPhee, for his wife and children, till October 16th.
