Teeutee's telegrams.] CAPETOWN, October 5. The Transvaal Convention. Telegrams received to-day from Pretoria announce that the Volksraad has concluded its consideration of the report of the committee appointed to decide upon the ratification or rejection of the Transvaal convention, and it has further transpired that, in accordance with the orders of the Volksraad, President Kruger has telegraphed to the Imperial authorities in London that it has been decided that the convention is contrary to the spirit of the Sand River treaty. A. protest is moreover made against the provisions of several of the clauses of the convention, and their modification is requested. LONDON, October 6. Bank Rate of Discount. The Bank of England has to-day raised its rate of discount to 5 per cent. Australian Mutton. The mutton brought per steamship Orient from Australia has realised an average of 6d per lb at Smithfield market. Tha condition of the meat was superior to that of any previous shipments.
