[eeutee’s telegrams.] SYDNEY, September 28. Reprisals. H.M.S. Wolverine, which arrived here to-day, reports having visited Xalo, New Guinea, the scene of the recent massacre of Native missionaries. The chief who was concerned in the massacre, and several other Natives were hailed, and possession was taken of the village, hut only one house, the residence of the chief, was destroyed. It is believed that the severe punishment inflicted on the Kalo Natives will have a salutory effect, and prevent the recurrence of outrages in New Guinea. The SmallpoxSmallpox in this city is gradually decreasing. Several patients who have I been quarantined at their residences have : now been removed to tho enclosure. A < man named Sonthcote was placed in ’ quarantine to-day. '
