ELLESMERE A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.
A general meeting of the members was held at Spring’s Leeeton Hotel on Tuesday afternoon, after the horse parade. Present— Messrs H. Boag (in the chair), Dudley, Cunningham, Mawson, Qabbie, Overton, Marshall, Bishop, Lewis, Bennie, Lawrenoo, Soott, Gilmonr, Desborougb, and others. The Secretary read the following correspondence :—Prom the secretary of the Leeston Cricket Club, consenting to the terms of the association re lease of cricket grounds.— Prom Mr H. Mawson, offering to lend the association £lso for a term of years. The secretary stated that the sub-committee had accepted this offer, and their action was approved. • The tenders for the new building were then considered, and that of Mr Pentelow for £l3O accepted. Mr William Lunn was requested to take the superintendence of the erection of same to see that the terms of the contract were faithfully carried out. The Secretary then read a list of judges who had consented to act in the various classes, and was ordered to write to others in place of any who found it inconvenient to attend.—The ground committee gave notice that certain alterations should be made in the position of the horse rails, and on on the motion of Mr P. Overton it was resolved—- “ That the rails for draught stock be removed About two chains further back; that the horse ring be shifted and enlarged at least ten yards, and that the gully be filled in.” Mr Wm. Bishop was empowered to see the necessary alterations carried out. The secretary was instructed to write to the general manager of railways for the usual special train, to engage band, gate keepers, &o. The following very satisfactory special prize list, amounting in all to about 100 guineas, was read by the secretary : —Hon. John Hall, £5 ss, for the greatest prize taker ia the greatest variety of classes; Messrs Bluett, Prankish and Co., £3 3a, for the best ram, any age or breed, on the ground; Mr B. J. Lee, £2 2s, for the best pen of owes on the ground ; Messrs Ooates and 00., £2 2s, for the best pen of ten fat lambs ; Mr Wm. Graham, £2 2s, for the best ten fat hoggets unshorn ; Mr E. J. Lee, £3 3s, for the best five ewe hoggets, first cross from merino ewe *»7 any loug-woolled ram, &0., vide versa ; certificate of breed to he lodged at time of entry. Messrs Sandstein and 00., £2 2s, for the best ten fat lambs, first cross ; certificate of breed to be lodged at time of entry. Mr John Boag, £2 12s fid, for the best bull on the ground ; Messrs Petersen and 00., £2 2s, lor the best bull calved since July Ist, 1881; Mr J, Mawson, £3 3s, for the best milch cow on the ground ; Mr John Boag, £2 12s fid, for the best cow and two of her progeny, yearlings and over ; Mr L. White, £3 3s, for the best shorthorn cow on the ground ; Messrs Acland, Campbell and 00., £3 3s, for the beat pen of two fat bullocks 3 years old, the property of one owner ; Mr E. B. Willis, £2 2s, for the best two-year-old heifer ; Mr J. B. Campbell, £3 3s, for the best thoroughbred entire on the ground ; Mr J. B. Campbell, £2 2s, for the best thoroughbred mare on the ground ; Mr Wm. Gabbie, £2 3s, for the best yearling colt by Commodore ; Mr Wm. Gabbie, £1 Is, for the best yearling filly by Commodore; Publicans' Cup, £5 ss, presented by Messrs Mitchell, Sutherland, Spring, James and Johnston, for the beat draught entire travelling the Ellesmere district; Messrs P. Cunningham and Co., £3 3s, for the best three-year-old draught entire colt on the ground ; Messrs H. Matson and Co., £3 3s, for the beat draught mare on the ground ; Messrs H. Matson and Co., £2 2s, for the best draught gelding on the ground ; Mr J. Cunningham, £3 3s, for the beet draught mare on the ground, to be shown with two of her progeny, yearling or over; Mr John MoKellar, £3 12s ■6d, for best draught colt or gelding foaled oinoe July, 1880; Mr John MoKellar, £2 12s 6d, for the best draught filly foaled since July, 1880 ; Mr Job Osborne, £2 2s, for the best three-horse team in regular work, the bona fide property of exhibitor; Mr G. Gilmonr, £2 2s, for the best breeding sow on the ground ; Pbbs3 Company, Limited, £3 3s, for the beat boar on the ground ; Mr G. Booth, £2 2s, for the best two-horse dray; Mr Ohas. Lewis, £3 3s, for the best contrivance for drawing reaper and binders through farm gates, lengthways, price to be given at time of entry. Mr W. D. Laurence, £3 3s, for the best collection of local industries by any one exhibitor; Mr P. Overton, £2 2s, for the best elevator for lifting sacks of grain on to a dray or wagon, use of horses not objected to ; proprietor of the ''Ellesmere Guardian,” £2 2s, for the best flitch of bacon and ham cured by exhibitor ; Mr B. M'Oonkey, £2 2s, for the beat cheese (one or more), not lean than 201 b 5 Leeston Store Company, £2 2s, for the best cask of potted butter, not less than 501 b; Messrs A. Cameron and 00., £2 2s, for the best 31b butter on the board ; Messrs Wauohop and Co., £2 2s, for the best six 11b rolls of powdered butter, to be deposited with Mr Spring, at the Leeston Hotel, not later than 19th October (N.B.—No entry requited) ; MV p. Bmmins, box soap, for the greatest prizetaker in poultry; Mr 0. T. Dudley, £3
3s, for the beat sample of New Zealand grown wheat (name of grower to be given ; the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company Limited, £3 3s, for the best four fleeces of crossbred hogget wool, first cross from merino ewe by any long-woolled ram, certificate of breed to be lodged at time of entry. Several new members having been proposed, a vote of thanks to the chairman closed the meeting.
