BOARD OF HEALTH.

This Board met after the Drainage Board. Present—Mr Boss (in the chair), Mr J. E. Brown, Mr Wm. White, junr., and Mr Xancred.

Mr Hancock waited on the Board in reference to complaints made about his soap and candle factory, stating that he had taken measures to abate the nuisance. —A letter was read from the Sydenham Borough Council, stating that the measures taken to abate the nuisance at Mr Hancock’s Soap Factory were considered unsatisfactory by the Borough Inspector. -Mr Hancock said the complaints were chiefly as to the tallow melting, and if given time he would remove that part of the business,—The matter was, on the motion of Mr Brown, re.'erred to the medical officer to report as to whether his recommendations had been carried out.

Letters were read as follows : ■ From the Colonial Secretary’s office, stating that the Government were taking steps to encourage and enforce vaccination. Letters on the question of vaccination which have appeared in print were read.—From the medical officer, stating that he had visited Sunnyside Asylum re Lincoln road drain, and found thet the water had a strong chalybeate smell, but was quite innocuous.—From the secretary to the Board of Education as to vaccinating school children, and stating that the Board would offer every facility for giving effect to the regulations on the subject.— A letter was read calling attention to a nuisance caused by a pool of stagnant water at the corner of Holly and Papanui roads. Referred to the inspector, the committee being empowered to take action, if necessary. A report was made by the Inspector of Nuisances as to the Addington gaol premises, which he found to have defective drainage. The chairman was instructed to communicate with the Government on the subject. A telegram was read from Mr E. C. J. Stevens, Id H.R., as follows : —“Wellington, September 17th. Public Health Bill passed House of Representatives. It will probably pass.”

After passing accounts the Board adloomed.
