DRAINAGE BOARD.

The Board met yesterday afternoon. P/e----jsei t—Mr H. J. Taasred (chairman), Messrs (Harman, White, duff, Boss and Brown, Mr Fisher waited on the Board with reference to the flooding of his land on Colombo road by water from the streets. —Referred to the engineer to report. The report of the engineer was then road, and considered danse by danse. Mr OudF drew attention to the ill effects of draining, the water from land on tho south aide of the Avon into that river. A good deal of tho low lying land was now flooded in wet weather on account of the river being swelled by storm water draining into it too rapid ly. It was decided not to enlarge the drain. The Board resolved to dear tho drain in* Flockton street if the residents paid the* cost. The question of draining roads on 'Jae Linwood estate was referred to the Road Board, and the matter of draining NelsonV road was referred (o tho Heathoote Board. The Board then proceeded to deal with the correspondence. Letters were read— From the Colonial Secretary, Wellington, requesting the Board to allow their engineer to consult with the Public Works Department concerning the drainage and’ water supply at the Sunuyside Asylum. Agreed t°-~B'rom the same, asking for a return of the indebtedness of the Board, and also as to value of their property and endowments. Agreed to afford the information asked for.— From the town olerk, Sydenham, acknowledging receipt of the Board's letter as to drainage rate, and stating that the Borough Council had no copies of rolls showing particulars* of the rate, and asking for further information. Resolved that a copy of the roll be made, the necessary authority being given to the seore- £? r y*~^’ ron ? the clerk to the Riccarton Road Board, calling attention to the imperfect drainage at the Ilam Estate, and suggesting remedial measures. Referred to the engineer. —From the clerk to the Spreydon Road Board, acceding to the Drainage Board’s request that some of the members of tho Road Board would meet the Drainage Board engineer for the purpose of obtaining levels, so as to prevent mistakes in laying out new roads, Ac., in the district. Resolved to reply that the Board would furnish any levels of the drainage scheme as a guide to the Road Boards in adapting their newly-made roads to such levels.—From Mrs S. J, Boase, calling attention to the flooded state of her section in Buskin street, Sydenham. Resolved that the desired relief bo given as soon as the necessary formalities were complied with.— From Mr M. Rent, calling attention to the stoppage of the drainage of his section on the East belt, and requesting an interview with the Board on the subject. Mr Kent, in company with Mr Cuff, waited on the Board. The matter was referred to the engineer, with certain instructions.—From Mr T. Heard, drawing attention to the flooded state of his section in Worcester street, and complaining of the injustice of his having to pay drainage rates under the circumstances.

Mr Brown gave notice of motion for altering the hour of meeting from 1.30 to 2.30 each meeting day.—Mr White gave notice of motion—“ That Messrs Harman, Ouff, and himself be a committee to recommend what lines of pipe sewers should be proceeded with.”

Accounts were passed as follows—Bute, £6497 12s 6d ; loan, £145 lls 9d. This concluded the business.
