[FEB PHBBB ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, September 14. Local Industry. The Auokland boot factories are driving out the imported goods, 3500 pairs being made per week. Our Citizen ArmyThe volunteer movement in Auokland is apparently declining. At the parade last night one company mustered one private and one officer. VaccineExperiments are being made by vaccinating calves from lymph obtained from Belgium to obtain a constant supply of pure lymph. At the Bay of Islands arrangements are being made to have all the Natives vaccinated. Cricket. At a largely attended meeting of cricketers, Mr F. Buckland presiding, it was resolved to form a provincial cricketing association, to have the eontrol of interprovincial, intercolonial, international and elub and cup matches. The Hon. F. Whitaker was elected president. The Dunedin Association rules were substantially adopted. A letter was read from Mr Conway on behalf of the English orickoting team, desiring to asoertain the terms and arrangements for a visit from the English cricketers to Auckland. An answer was deferred till next meeting. Fire. A fire occurred at the premises of the New Zealand Timber Co., but was suppressed by the fire apparatus belonging to the Auokland Timber Co. adjoining. The fire arose from a heated flue. WELLINGTON, September 14. Railway Extension. The following tenders were received for the Waimakariri Gorge oontract No. 1, Canterbury interior main line. Accepted— Greig and Guild, Tinwald, £2487. Declined —B. Johnston, Waikari, £2536 ;J. Farmer, Ohristchurch, £2546 ; J. Henderson, Lyttelton, £2929 ; Davidson and Oonyers, Dunedin, £3031; Eraser and Co., Dunedin, £3684, The Steamer Tui. A telegram from Waitara states that the steamer Tui is in a better position for launching, and will probably be floated to-night. Great difficulty was experienced in reducing the.leak. Storm at Sea. The schooner Edith Beid experienced very bad weather on the passage from Timaru. The captain reports reaching light variable weather until reaching Eaikoura, when she was becalmed. At 1 a.m. on Monday the wind freshening from the south-west, got underweigh, the wind increased to a hard gale and blew with terrific force. While tho mainsail was being reefed, a sudden gust carried the foreyard away, taking with it the topsail and topgallant sail. Hove the vessel too for several hours, when the wind taking off oleared away the wreckage, set sail and came on for Wellington. Whes entering the Heads the gaff carried away. During the gale the sea was running mountains high. DUNEDIN, September 14. Railway ExtensionMr Oliver telegraphs that the Premier has promised that work on the Otago Central line will be continued slowly. Judicial. The ensuing civil sitting of the Supreme Court will be unusually protracted. Amongst the actions set down for hearing are two claims against the Boslyn Tramway Company —one of £2OOO, another of £IOOO. The accident at the Kensington railway crossing will also furnish ground for three or four actions. The other business includes the vexed case, ' Connor v Mackay, which has been already so ' long on hand. A Reverend Politician. Mr M. W. Green, pastor of the Christian Disciples, will probably stand for the Northern city electorate. Local Industry. Messrs Kempthorne, Prosser and Co. have manufactured fifty tons of sulphuric acid, and will claim the Government bonus of £SOO. EireTwo cottages at Green Island were burnt down yesterday. They were inßurod in the North British for £250.
