BOARD OF CONSERVATORS.
A meeting of the above was held on Tuesday. Present —Messrs J. L. Wilson (chairman), H. W. Peryman, Boag, H. Atkinson, W. White, jun., T. 8. Lambert, and E. Jones. Mr Jones reported that the works committee had inspooted the work of planting at the upper part of the river, whioh was progressing satisfactorily. The committee had instructed the overseer to procure several trees which would bo required to complete the planting for the season. Mr Jones also gave a statement of the number of trees, cuttings, &0., planted on the backs of the river, which Dhowed that there had beon 47£ cords of willow Btakes, 28,000 poplar cuttings, 9200 poplar trees, 1200 oaks, 100 ash, 1600 birch, 200 pinus insignia, 1500 sylvostris, 500 macrocarps, 1000 maritims. and 250 abies planted. The total cost, including planting and carting, had been £227 4s Id. The report made by Mr Jones for the works committee was accepted on the motion of Mr Peryman. Accounts to the amount of £216 6a 8d were passed for payment. An application was received from Mr E. M. Templar for transfer of his sections purchased under lesoe to Mr Holmes. On the motion of Mr Lambert the Board agreed to transfer Nos. 15 and 16 of the reserves to Mr Holmes, subject to the latter completing tho leaso with the Board. A letter was read from the Colonial Secretary asking for a return of the indebtedness of tho Board, r.nd its endowments and property to 31st March. It was resolved that the request of the Government be acceded to, and the information sent by the finance committee. A letter was read from Mr John Ollivier, stating that ho could not, under his appointment, decide as to the fixing of the per-centage to bo payablo by the Board to tho local Bor-rda, as provided by clause 23 of tho Bivers Act. Tho secretary read a letter which bad been sent to tho Govornmont asking that Mr Ollivier or some one should bo appointed to decide tho rate of remuneration payable, to whioh no answer had been returned. Mr Jones suggested that the various local bodies ahould be asked to agree to Mr Ollivier or some one else being appointed to arbitrate. It was resolved to allow the matter to stand over till next meeting. Th'*s concluded the business, and the Board adjourned.
