PARLIAMENTARY.
LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. Wednesday, August 31. The Council mot at 2.30 p.m. The Hon. Captain Eraser's motion to bring in a Bill to regulate the privileges of the press lapsed. The Hon. Colonel Basra moved—" That the returning by the Government of Sir Julius Vogel's letter was discourteous and much to be regretted," but after a brief discussion the motion was withdrawn. The Hon. G. Bucklby moved—" That the Council should adjourn from Thursday, September Ist, till Tuesday, September 13th, as there would be nothing for it to do. The Hon. F. Whitaxbb opposed the motion, which was rejected by 17 to 11. The Hon. G. M. Watbbhotjse moved, and it was carried—" That all Acts should be published and circulated as soon as assented to." The Parliamentary Oaths Bill was read a second time by 13 to 12. Division List:—For the Bill—Hons. Brett, T. Buckley, Chamberlain, Dignan, Fraser, Henderson, Lahmann, Martin, Peacock, Pharazyn, Scotland, Waterhouse, Wilson. Against—Hons. G. Buckloy, Grace, Holmes, G. Johnson, Mantell, Miller, Peter, Richmond, Eobinson, Whitaker, Wigley, Williamson. The Native Keserves Bill was passed through committee. The Council adjourned from 5 to 7.30. EVENING SITTING. The Counoil resumed at 7.30 p.m., and proceeded to consider the Timaru Harbor Endowment Bill in committee, and the proposed addition of a rating clause, but there being few members present, an adjournment wos made at 7.40.
