Penguin arrived yesterday at 11 a m. from Dunedin, and left at 5 p.m. for Northern ports and Manukau. The Union Steamship Company's a.a. Arawata arrived at 2 p.m. yesterday from Wellington, and left for Melbourne last evening via Sjuthern ports. Captain Bradley, of the Pleetwing, reports sighting on Sunday night off the Kaikoura what he took to bo a spar, floating apparently about three miles off shore. He sent one of his hands np the rigging to aeo what it wa3, and ho reported it to bo a boat. Captiin Brad'ty would have stopped to look closer, but dirk coming on prevented it. The barque Celostia, Captain Veol, arrived yesterday from Wostport, and tho Spray from Hokitika. The Celestia brought a cargo of coal, the Spray a car*o of timber. The barque made a good run of fifty-nine bour3 from the Weatport wharf to Godley Head, and thu3 accomplished the round run from Dunedin in 12\ days, including loading at Wc-stporfc The Bchoonor Spray, Captain Kuxtou, left Hokitika on August 23rd, and for the first three or four daya encountered adverse weather.
