[retjter's telegrams.] SYDNEY, August 31. The Smallpox Question. Dr. Buller has ton supposed cases of smallpox under observation. Another authenticated fresh case was reported to the Health Board yesterday. In the Legislative Assembly last night, Mr Copolaud moved—" That an address be presented to the Governor, declaring that tho quarantining of healthy persons and houses supposed to be infected was cruel and tyrannical, and an infringement ef the liberty of the subject. Mr Watson, the Colonial Treasurer, vindicated the action of the Government in thoir efforts to stamp out the disease. He believed that tho time was not far distant when it would entirely disappear. MELBOURNE, August 31. Heavy Bail. J. Agg, accountant of the Lands department, has been committed for trial on a charge of forgery. Bail to tho amount of £4OOO has been accepted. Destructive FireA most destructive fire broke out at a drapery store at Wodonga last night, and before it could be extinguished considerable damage was dono. The loss is estimated at £SOOO.
