AQUATICS.

Tho Boston correspondent of the London Sportsman ” writes as follows : Less than four years ago the three great American scullers were Courtney, Riley, and Plaisted, and during the summer of that year rowed a race at Saratoga which will long be remembered by those who witnessed it. Plaisted led tor a mile and three-quarters, followed by Riley. Then Plaisted fell by the way, and Riley led to the two-mile stake, when Courtney beat him out very handily, making the fastest three-mile time on record (20min. 20sec.), which ho was said to hare bettered later in tho year. At present Courtney is in retirement at Union Springe, Riley is disgusted at tho turn affairs took in England, and is keeping quiet in Saratoga, and Plaisted is seeking races with fourth-class scullers. The three men who were first-class in 1577 are now rated thirdclass. Courtney and his friends entertain hopes of doing something this season to regain lost laurels. I hear from tho best authority that

Courtney has authorised a friend in this city to make three matches for him, each for lOOOdols a side—hi* first man to be Plaisted, second Kennedy, of Portland, and third Biley, of Saratoga. Correspondence is taking place between friends of Courtney and Kennedy. The former is willing to row at Auburn, N.Y., or Saratoga, but Kennedy sticks at Portland. Possibly they will agree to row on neutral water, I received a letter from Biley yesterday. He has been very despondent, but having been invited to row in the regatta here on June X7tb he begins to feel braced up, and says he will resume rowing at once. He has no matches in prospect, but I judge from the tone of |hie letter that he anticipates doing something with Trickett, who is expected here daily, and who will locate at Biley’s village of hotels when he arrives in this country.
