rKEUTEE’a TELEGRAMS.! LONDON, August 23. Wool SalesThe August-September series of colonial wool auctions opened to-day, when there was a good attendance of home and foreign buyers. The opening catalogue comprised 8200 bales, and there was a fair demand. New South Wales wools realised about the same prices as at the close of last sales, but Port Phillip wools wore weaker, crossbreds and faulty and scoured sorts being Ojd to Id below the closing rates of last auctions. English Land Bill. In the House of Commons to-day a question was put to the Premier as to whether the Government intended to introduce a Bill to amend the English Land Act during next session. In reply, Mr Gladstone stated that ho could not promise that such a measure would be brought in next session. WASHINGTON, August 23. The President’s State-To-day’s bulletin reports that President Garfield’s condition has materially improved. The fits of vomiting have ceased, and he is now again able to take food through his mouth. SUEZ, August 23. Frozen Meat. Arrived—Orient Company’s steamship Cuzco, from Melbourne. Her cargo of frozen meat is reported to be in excellent condition.
