HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the above was held on Wednesday. Present —His Worship the Mayor of Christchurch (in the chair), the Mayor of Sydenham, and Mr Howies. The report of the Hospital committee was read as follows : The Hospital committee report that daring the fortnight ending 20th August, 33 patients were admitted into the Hospital and 24 were discharged, leaving 71 patients in the institution ; daring the same period two deaths occurred. For the corresponding period of last year, there were 49 patients in the Hospital. The committee are pleased to report that Messrs Duncan and Son have kindly undertaken to receive at their seed warehouse, Cashel street, donations of flowers for the Hospital, and to forward them from time to time as received. It was resolved that certain asphalting be done, as recommended by the Hospital committee.

The correspondence was read as follows : From the house steward, forwarding the quarterly returns to June 30th of the receipts and expenditure, which showed that the total disbursements had been £115212s lid From the Colonial Secretary, approving of the appointment of Mr and Mrs Smart as caretaker and matron of the Hospital Cottage, Akaroa. —From the Geraldine Boad Board, Sydenham Borough Council, and Waimato Borough Council, acknowledging the receipt of the annual statement of receipts and expenditure of the Board—From Dr. Macdonald, stating that the resolution passed at the last meeting of the Board re vaccination of the children at the Orphanage had been carried out. All the children had been vaccinated once, and many of them more than once. The return of the Hospital Cottage at Akaroa was read, stating that there were at present three patients in the institution. The report of the Ashburton Home was also read, stating that there had been one admission since last meeting.—Certain regulations for the Ashburton Home were submitted and approved.
