Wholesale Letter Eobbery.
Fred. Day Rendle, a letter carrier attached to the Napier Post-office, was arrested last nigbt, charged with tampering with letters. For some time, moneys sent by post had not reached their destination, and a trap was laid for him, and he was discovered in his room, where there were several letters found. Rendle is a young man of superior education, and came to the colony about seven years ago as a midshipman on an emigrant ship, and ran away when the ship was at Napier. He was brought before the Court this morning and remanded till Monday. Obitaary. Captain McLean, brother of Sir Donald McLean, died yesterday. W. Dunn and E. Edwards wore charged, on rsmand, with the robbery of about £4O each from the Ship Hotel. Edwards was discharged, there being no evidence against him, and Dunn was committed for trial at tho Supreme Court, at Timaru. Bail was allowed, himself in £IOO, and two sureties of £lO9 each.
